Zero waste advocate urges Gibsons to take stand now on potential incinerator

A zero waste advocate from Gibsons is warning the Town against letting its guard down when it comes to the possibility of a Metro Vancouver garbage incinerator setting up in the area.

Port Mellon, and Nanaimo, have been talked about as potential sites — but there’s hasn’t been much indication from Metro on where the process stands right now.

Buddy Boyd of Gibsons Recycling told Councillors Tuesday night, that silence isn’t necessarily reassuring.

Boyd is urging Council to take a firm stand now in opposition to any incinerator in, or near, the community.

Boyd also made a pitch for the Town to take some other steps “down a zero waste path’, including pilot projects on home composting.
