A 50-year-old Ladysmith man is being held in custody while the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and Ladysmith RCMP investigate a suspicious death.
Police say there was a 9-1-1 call just after midnight last night about a fight between a group of people at the Campers Corner RV Park on the Trans Canada Highway in Ladysmith.
When RCMP and paramedics arrived, they found an injured 55-year-old woman. She died at the scene.
Police say they’re treating the death as a homicide.
The woman is from Ladysmith and knew the man police now have under arrest. So far, no charges have been laid.
“Investigators are in the very early stages of this investigation”, says Cpl. Darren Lagan. “While their investigation is in its infancy, there is no evidence to suggest there is any risk to the public.”
Police are asking anyone with information to call Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
