Simons supports organics initiative, but wants to see it move quickly

NDP MLA Nicholas Simons says it’s about time the government started working on regulations around how farmers use the term “organic”.

Simons is the party’s former Agriculture Critic and part of the NDP’s new “Opposition Standing Committee on Agriculture and Food”.

The government says it wants to hear from growers on a BC Certified Organic program, along with marketing strategies and help for those who want to get certified.

Simons says the agriculture sector has been asking for that for a least 10 years.

Simons says he’s hoping the consultation moves quickly, but includes a broad range of voices — including the NDP’s new committee.
