Nanaimo RCMP looking for man who bear sprayed car owner

Nanaimo RCMP are on the hunt for a suspect who used bear-spray on a man who chased him after his car was broken into.

It happened around 8:20 last night.

The man saw somebody taking things from a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 11-hundred block of Townsite Road.

He yelled at the suspect who took off. When the man caught up to him he was hit with the pepper spray, allowing the would-be thief to get away with a laptop and a jacket.

The suspect was last seen running east on St Patrick towards Waddington.

A police dog was brought in, but the suspect couldn’t be found. The victim was treated at NRGH.

The suspect is a white man, 25-30 years old, 5 ft. 11.  At the time he was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a grey hat. The stolen laptop is an Acer.  If you have any information call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.  Or, make a tip online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com
