Scams and bad driving in this week's Sunshine Coast RCMP incident report

RCMP say a Sunshine Coaster has fallen victim to a scam that started with a Facebook friend request.

After the request was accepted, the suspect convinced his target he needed money for a good cause.

He used a faked image of a passport to prove his identity, and the victim wired what RCMP say was a large some of money to a third party. It happened again a few days later.

After getting a third request, the target started to question what was going on, and the suspect just got more demanding.

RCMP say they’re still investigating.

The bad driving incident was in Gibsons.  Sunshine Coast RCMP say an “N” plated driver is in a lot of trouble after witnesses reported a vehicle, with no plates, speeding down Farnham Road, doing burnouts and fishtailing. It’s an area with a lot of traffic and pedestrians.

RCMP managed to catch up with the driver and pull them over. The driver didn’t have his license on him, and heavily tinted windows made the temporary plate impossible to see.

The driver was ticketed, and on top of that his license was suspended for 15 days, and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.
