They’re calling it the “Fight for 15”, and on the 15th of every month this year the BC Federation of Labour and others supporting an increase in the minimum wage are hitting the streets circulating petitions and handing out pamphlets.
They want to see BC’s minimum wage go up to $15/hr from the current $10.25 (or less for waitstaff and some trainees).
BC Fed president Irene Lanzinger says as Fight for 15 goes on they’ll highlight a different issue every month. This month it’s the importance of the minimum wage for students.
Fight for 15 supporters are planning to be out in downtown Sechelt this afternoon, but there’s no organized event scheduled in Nanaimo. Lanzinger says anyone who wants to support the campaign can visit fightfor15bc.ca
