It looks like just three cruise ships will call in Nanaimo this year.
The Port Authority’s 2015 schedule shows visits in June and September by large Celebrity ships and one from a smaller ship due in July. The two Celebrity ships include the Solstice (seen above), which stopped in Nanaimo last season. It’s the biggest ship on the Alaska run.
The NPA’s David Mailloux says it’s not what they hoped, but the industry remains competitive and Nanaimo is making headway.
Nanaimo’s multimillion dollar cruise ship terminal opened in 2011. The busiest season since then was 2013, when 7 ships called.
