Weston hoping to bring Port officials, politicians, community together to talk coal transfer plan

West Vancouver Sunshine Coast MP John Weston says he’s hoping to bring some key groups together early in the New Year to talk about the controversial plan to ship coal to Asia via the Salish Sea.

There’s been stiff opposition on the Sunshine Coast to the idea of barging coal from Fraser Surrey Docks to Texada Island for transfer to bigger ships.

Weston says he wants to discuss the process leading up to Port Metro’s approval of the project.

The proposal is also facing a couple of court challenges that could delay, or even end, the plan.
