After local opposition and concern, plans for a new long term care facility in Sechelt may be moving to a new location in Gibsons.
Trellis Senior Services have asked Vancouver Coastal Health to amend their contract for a new location. This after Sechelt Council said they needed more time to assess how the facility would fit into their official community plan. Trellis says after delays and uncertainty, they began looking for an alternative.
Gavin Wilson, Public Relations with VCH says timing is important, as the need for long term care beds on the Sunshine Coast is urgent.
Trellis Seniors Services was awarded a contract by Vancouver Coastal Health last year to build a new 128-bed facility on the Sunshine Coast.
