RDN using Coombs Fairground to “Prepare to Survive”

The Regional District of Nanaimo is transforming the Coombs Fairground into a disaster area this weekend.

It’s a training session for Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Teams, Emergency Social Services and Emergency Communications volunteers from Parksville, Lantzville and Qualicum Beach and the RDN’s rural areas

Emergency Program Coordinator Jani Drew says they’ll be going over all sorts of things, including something called “emotional first aid”.

Drew says the forest fires, drought and severe storms the region experienced over the summer show it’s not just the “big one” people need to be prepared for.

Participation in the event is already booked up, but for information on preparedness or find out how to form your own Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Team visit rdn.bc.ca or e-mail [email protected]
