Province rejects Nanaimo’s request for stay of dam order

The Environmental Appeal Board has denied the City of Nanaimo’s application for a stay of the province’s order to remediate the Colliery dams by the fall.

Now the City has until July 24 to choose one of two remediation options to enlarge the spillway.

But Nanaimo-North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley is calling on the province to back off and give the City time to make the right decision.

The EAB’s decision not to grant a stay will be discussed at Council’s next meeting on July 6th.
