Sunshine Coast RCMP say medical distress may have led to weekend crash

Sunshine Coast RCMP are saying they think a medical problem was likely behind a single vehicle crash in Sechelt.

It happened Saturday morning at the intersection of Highway 101 and Shorncliffe Avenue.

Police say an elderly woman driver flipped her small SUV. Paramedics took the woman to Sechelt Hospital, and RCMP say a seat belt kept her injuries from being worse.

“Despite the vehicle landing on its roof, the driver was held securely in her seat, and was still upside down herself when emergency personnel arrived. The outcome would have been far worse had the driver not been wearing her seat belt,” says Constable Harrison Mohr.
