The Tour de Coast rolled through the Sunshine Coast Thursday.

After visits to Roberts Creek, Davis Bay and Madeira Park Elementaries the riders made a stop to thank the people who helped raise 45-thousand dollars in last week's Red Serge Gala, and at Sunshine Coast RCMP detachment.

Detachment members Andrea Ceulemans and Nicole Hall are on the ride this year.

The Tour de Coast riders arrive on the Sunshine Coast Thursday morning, it's going to mean an exciting day for school kids and Cops for Cancer volunteers, as well as some delays on the roads

After getting into Langdale, they'll be riding from the ferry terminal to Roberts Creek Elementary between 8:20 and 9:11.

The riders leave Roberts Creek just before 10 to make their way to Davis Bay Elementary.

Then it's the long ride from Davis Bay to Madeira Park from 10am to Noon.

After stopping for lunch at the Legion and dropping in on Madeira Park Elementary, it's back south, from roughly 1:30 to 3:30 when the riders will be stopping at the Sunshine Coast RCMP detachment.

Detachment members Andrea Ceulemans and Nicole Hall are on the ride this year. We talked to them earlier about the rewards, and the challenges.

The last leg on the road will take them from Sechelt to Camp Olave, where they'll spend the night.

The plan for Friday morning is to leave Camp Olave at 6:45 and ride about an hour up Highway 101, before getting on a bus for the Earls Cove ferry terminal.

With a week to go, Sunshine Coast ready to host biggest Tour de Coast fundraiser https://www.mycoastnow.com/16273/news/with-a-week-to-go-sunshine-coast-ready-to-host-biggest-tour-de-coast-fundraiser/ Wed, 09 Sep 2015 22:22:57 +0000 http://www.mycoastnow.com/?p=16273

It's the final fundraising and training push for Cops for Cancer riders around BC

For Sunshine Coast RCMP Tour de Coast riders Andrea Ceulemans and Nicole Hall the training has presented a unique challenge.

Hall says they've had to squeeze a lot of it in on their own.

Ceulemans adds that they've also had their share of crashes and mishaps.

The riders share motivations that are common to Tour participants.  Ceulemans says cancer has touched her life in many ways, including losing grandparents and close friends.  Hall says as a mom she's grateful for healthy kids, and wants to do something to help families dealing with the impact of a child with cancer.

The biggest of the Sunshine Coast fundraisers is Thursday's Red Serge Gala. Last year the event brought in over 42-thousand dollars.

The Tour de Coast starts next Wednesday, September 19th.
