Catalyst confirms contract truck driver killed at Crofton Mill

Officials with Catalyst Paper have now confirmed a truck driver has been killed in an accident at the Crofton Pulp Mill.Catalyst President Joe Nemeth released a statement this morning, saying everyone at the company is saddended by the incident and extending sympathies to the man’s family and friends.

RCMP say they were alerted just before 8 Tuesday night when the driver of a truck making a delivery couldn’t be found. Evidence pointed to the man being carried into a silo by the conveyor system, and crews worked late into the night Wednesday to the silo in an effort to find him.Scott McCloy speaks for WorkSafe BC.

WorkSafe BC is now taking the lead in the investigation, working with the BC Coroners Service, the companies involved, and RCMP. The man’s name has not been released.
