Shutdown at WFP's Ladysmith sawmill

Western Forest Products is stopping production at its Ladysmith sawmill for the second time since 2008.

The mill will shut down temporarily at the end of the week, after being back in production for only 4 years following the last shut down.

Around 70 workers are affected.

It comes the same time as WFP’s Nanaimo sawmill closes permanently.

The company announced in October it plans to consolidate operations at the Duke Point sawmill and Saltair, which is also in Ladysmith.
