New owners come forward for Sechelt Shoppers Drug Mart

After being in limbo for months because of a Competition Bureau ruling, the Shoppers Drug Mart location in Sechelt (image via Google) has new owners.

Rexall has confirmed it’s buying the store, as well as a Shoppers in Devon, Alberta.

The Competition Bureau ordered Loblaw to sell or close the Sechelt location as one of the conditions of the company’s March, 2014 deal to buy the Shoppers chain. The Bureau said the having both the Shoppers location at the Trail Bay Mall and the Extra Foods Pharmacy at the Tsain Ko Centre would be an unfair advantage.

Rexall Chief Operating Officer Warren Jeffery says, “In the weeks and months ahead, we will be working hard to ensure the transition is as smooth and seamless as possible for our new customers, patients, employees and the community.”

Company officials aren’t being specific about whether all existing employees are being offered the chance to stay on, saying only “We will be working with all employees to ensure a smooth transition during this process”. They do, however, say the Canada Post outlet in the store will be staying.
