Gibsons Library book box among targets in recent vandalism incidents

Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating after explosives were used in three recent vandalism incidents in Gibsons.
Last Wednesday around 5:30pm, a metal mailbox on Poplar Lane was blown to pieces. Then on Friday, a community book exchange box at the corner of O’Shea Rd and Shaw Rd was vandalized around 2:00am. Police suspect explosives were used. And finally on Sunday, another mail box on Poplar Lane was blown apart around 11:00pm.
“Although this may seem like an innocent prank, these incidents are destroying people’s property, and could cause injury to anyone around when the explosion goes off,” said Cst. Harrison Mohr with Sunshine Coast RCMP.
Police think all the incidents are related and they think the explosives used may be fireworks. They don’t have any suspects at this point. Those involved could face mischief charges. If you have any information call Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
