Big turnout for Nanaimo Council inaugural

The inaugural Nanaimo City Council Meeting drew a big crowd to the Vancouver Island Conference Centre Monday night.

3 incumbent and 5 new Councillors were sworn in, and outgoing Mayor John Ruttan passed the Chain of Office to Bill McKay.

McKay says he’s keen to get down to the business of running the city, and so is the rest of Council.

McKay says he’s hearing a lot of excitement from the community, and in his speech, he said the council will set a new course to fulfill Nanaimo’s promise and potential.

The round of inaugural meetings on the Sunshine Coast begins Tuesday in Gibsons. The meeting has been moved to the Gibsons Public Market. It starts at 7pm.
