Young Nanaimo fire victim identified

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a young boy who died on Sunday after a house fire the day before.

He was seven-year-old Dominik Ambrose David Billy from Nanaimo.

He was rescued from a second-storey apartment on Albert Street after the fire broke out around 3:00am. He was rushed to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and transferred by hovercraft to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.

He died at the BC Children’s Hospital on Sunday morning.

Matt Brown, the Regional Coroner for Vancouver Island with the BC Coroners Service says the investigating is continuing.

There will be a vigil for Dominik on Monday, Dec 1 at 5:00pm at 361 Albert St. Donations for the family are being gathered online.
