Hamperville, Elves Club depots opening for run-up to Christmas

Christmas is less than a month away and that means seasonal charity efforts are getting into full swing.

Hamperville officially kicked-off in Nanaimo Wednesday, for its 11th year.

It’s a joint effort by the Salvation Army and the Loaves and Fishes food bank.  This year’s depot is at 201 Fry Street (Fry and Milton).

Rob Anderson of the Salvation Army is the Hamperville Coordinator. He says although yesterday was the kick-off, they’ve been registering people to get hampers for a while now.

Hamperville distributed 2,450 hampers last year.

The Elves Club on the Sunshine Coast, meanwhile, opens its depot this Saturday (Nov 29) with an event from noon to 3pm at the Gibsons Park Plaza. The annual telethon follows a week later; on December 6th.
