Woman seriously hurt in a single vehicle crash on 101 near Hill Rd

Sunshine Coast RCMP say a 64 year old woman is in grave condition after being injured in a single vehicle accident on Highway 101 north of Sechelt.

The woman’s car went off into a ditch near Hill Road around 1pm, forcing police to shut down one lane.   RCMP say she suffered serious head injuries and may have had a stroke either just before, or after the accident.  She was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver.

Roads were wet at the time, and RCMP are still investigating whether that played a role in the crash.  They say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

This is the same stretch of Highway 101 where a 21 year old woman was badly injured in a crash in September.  She remains in hospital.  Road conditions were also wet at that time.

Constable Harrison Mohr of Sunshine Coast RCMP says, “Our Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Services (ICARS) investigators attended this location after the previous collision and conducted various tests of the roadway. Using their results, we are working with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to find ways of improving road safety in the area”
