Simons sees good and bad in liquor rule changes

Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons says there’s some good and some bad in all the changes happening with liquor sales.

Simons is the NDP critic for Coastal Economic Development and Small Business. He says there’s no doubt about one of the “goods”, after a season of sales for local brewers, distillers and wineries at farmers markets.

Simons says, though, with sales in grocery stores set to start April 1st, there’s something else the government should be considering.

The option to sell in grocery stores kicks in at the same time as a new system of wholesale pricing.

And Simons says he’s concerned the government hasn’t fully studied the impact on full service government stores, or the small stores throughout the Island-Coastal region already selling through “agency” agreements.
