Nanaimo Youth Advisory Council says their motto is "Represent, Engage, Inform"

It’s the end of the line for the current Nanaimo Council but the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council is going to continue their work. Several members made a brief presentation to council on Monday evening.
Outgoing Mayor John Ruttan first thanked the group for getting involved in municipal politics.
The 12 members have so far met five times. Chair Sarah Lumley says they spent some time just figuring out how the council will work. She says the role of Chair and Vice Chair be rotating positions lasting two months, to enable each of the 12 members to take a turn. Lumley says their vision can be summed up in 3 words: “Represent, Engage, Inform”.
Another member of the Youth Council, Claudia Thompson, thanked council for the opportunity to have a voice at City Hall and specifically singled out Councillor George Anderson. He was a driving force behind its creation. Anderson didn’t seek reelection but the initiative will live on after he leaves his post and he says that’s great.
More information about the Nanaimo Youth Advisory Council can be found on their Facebook page.
