Sechelt Council defers decision on Lot L to incoming Council

After a packed public hearing Monday, Sechelt Council is putting off a decision on the controversial re-zoning of the District-owned Lot L until the incoming Council is sworn in.

Councillor Darnelda Siegers, who won re-election Saturday, put forward the motion. She says they heard the concerns loud and clear, especially around the prospect part of Lot L will be sold to a medical marijuana company.

But Siegers says people need to understand the consequences, both for Sechelt’s economy and a pending deal to use the money to buy property on the banks of Chapman Creek.

Councillor Mike Shanks was also among the 5 supporting the delay, but he says he’s not convinced it will mean the collapse of the Davis Bay deal.
