Nanaimo Women's Resource Society gets $189k grant to help families

The Nanaimo Women’s Resource Society has come up with an innovative way to help families struggling with the lingering effects of unhealed trauma, mental illness or addictions.

Executive Director Lesley Clarke says getting a grant through the province’s Community Action Initiative to launch “The Place”. Clarke says they want to give families experiencing isolation a way to feel connected.

Clarke says “The Place” is less of an actual place and more of program that can be run almost anywhere. The CAI grant of $189,000 is spaced out over three years, so they’ll need to secure additional funding from other community partners in Nanaimo.

The latest round of funding from the CAI is distributing $2.9 million among 16 community-based projects in BC promoting positive mental health.
