A technical committee is Nanaimo has been meeting behind closed doors to discuss the future of the Colliery Dams. Some are wondering what’s happening with the decision process, and say not enough is being done to make information about what’s happening available to the public.
Jeff Soloman of the Colliery Dam Park Preservation Society says the technical committee is making progress. He says they have now enlisted the help of the Golder engineering firm.
Soloman says he agrees more details need to be shared, but first they need to find out some basic facts. He says the engineers are in the process of going over what options are available in terms of mitigating the risk posed by the dams. He says possible courses of action and the costs associated with those potential solutions will be made clear within the next few weeks. Meanwhile, facilitator Katherine Gordon says a report on what has happened so far will be released in the very near future.
