Judge gives Nanaimo activist more time to make case for stopping development

The court battle over the future of Nanaimo’s Linley Valley West continues.

Late last year the developer planning a subdivision in the area applied for an injunction against protestors, but it was local activist Brunie Brunie’s counter-claim against Mount Benson Developments that was the focus of yesterday’s hearing.

She wants an injunction of her own, to stop work at the site.  The judge tossed out the counter-claim, but gave Brunie until February 28th to file a new one.

Brunie says she’s going to take the opportunity to connect with other local stakeholders and raise awareness, before renewing her counter-claim.

The company’s original injunction application, meanwhile, is still before the courts with no date set for a hearing.
