District of Sechelt reminding people about bear awareness ahead of spring season

With spring officially set to start tomorrow, bears and their cubs will soon be out of their dens.

The District of Sechelt is reminding people they’ll be hungry for food and people must properly handle their household garbage and waste to not disturb them.

Green, blue, and black bins all must be stored inside a shed, garage, or enclosure to keep bears away and only be put out between 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on collection days.

Anyone with fruit trees and vegetable gardens is asked to harvest them as they begin to ripen and to not let any food gather on the ground.

Anyone who sees potentially dangerous wildlife should contact the BC Conservation Service.
