A Nanaimo man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run collision in the 2800 block of Cedar Road in Nanaimo.

According to RCMP, the 26-year-old was charged on Feb. 12 after a woman was found lying in the middle of Cedar Road near the Bennie Road intersection on Feb. 24, 2024.

Police say there were no witnesses to exactly what happened, but an investigation was able to determine what happened.

“Following a lengthy investigation by the Nanaimo RCMP General Investigation Section, and with assistance from the community, a vehicle and the driver were identified,” they say. “The man was arrested and charged with Fail to Stop After Accident-Causing Death in a Nanaimo Provincial Court.”

Despite efforts from emergency services and bystanders, RCMP say the woman died at the scene.
