The SCRD 2025 budget has been adopted, and the district says there will have to be a tax increase this year.
According to the district the main focuses are on capacity, underfunding, and service levels as well as moving ahead on several mandatory projects.
They add mandatory projects established in the budget are upgrades to the Chapman Water Treatment Plant, Soames Creek Monitoring, health and safety projects, weed removal at John Daley Park and increased information technology data storage.
The district says the adoption of the budget does mean residents will see an increase in their tax bill from the SCRD, and while the numbers are published people should prepare for the amounts to be revised.

“The figures are not final and only cover the SCRD portion of your tax bill,” they say. “If you don’t know which area or municipality your home is in, you can search your address via the map.”
According to a media release, the district is providing everyone with a template to calculate the portion of their tax bill but reminds everyone SCRD directors are willing to provide a presentation in their area.
“SCRD directors have been providing outreach and presentations in their respective areas to ensure that the community can speak directly to those who are making decisions on this year’s budget,” they say.
