SCRD dock renovation project delayed to late-summer

A dock renovation project meant to start this week has been delayed to late summer.

That comes from the Sunshine Coast Regional District, announcing that their Hopkins Landing Dock renovation project got delayed because of permitting delays.

They say after assessing the marine habitat, they found more planning is needed to protect eelgrass and fish habitat during construction, resulting in them not getting the necessary permits needed for the project.

General manager of community services Shelley Gagnon says they have heard from the community about how important that dock and project is to them.

“While this delay is disappointing, we are committed to adhering to the permitting process set by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans,” said Gagnon.

“We will work towards having all required permits in place by late summer, allowing work to proceed at that point.”

With this delay, they say construction can’t move forward until it re-opens in mid-August at the earliest.
