A local trail is closed for now thanks to an aggressive cougar.
That’s from the Regional District of Nanaimo, saying that on New Year’s Day, a cougar was seen displaying aggressive behaviour on the Ammonite Falls Regional Trail, with reports of the animal guarding its kill in the area.
Because of this, the district is closing the trail until further notice, having put up warning signs at the Trailheads on Friday, and trail closure signs on Monday.
They say the BC Conservation Officer Service has been notified of the situation.
They encourage you to take precautions like traveling in groups, leashing your pets and carrying bear spray, in case of encountering wildlife.
