Nanaimo RCMP look to public to locate money thief

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from a customer at a Nanaimo bank, and RCMP say they’re in the process of looking for the culprit.

According to police, the incident occurred on Jan. 3 around 1:45 p.m., at a Bank of Montreal at 6908 Island Highway North.

After speaking with employees at the bank, police say the customer was in the process of receiving a large sum of money when a person in line took it from the client and fled the scene of the crime.

They say no one was injured, and no threats were made, and no weapons were used.

The suspect was described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, with dark clothing, sunglasses and wearing a black COVID mask. They also say there was an accomplice to the incident who was described as wearing grey sweatpants and white runners.
