Police investigating Carnivore Kingdom break-in

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating the break-in of a downtown business from Boxing Day.

Police say the incident happened just after 3:00 a.m. that day, but it was reported after 7:30 a.m., when someone saw items thrown outside Carnivore Kingdom.

Reserve Constable Gary O’Brien says when officers attended the scene, they found the front glass of the business broken.

“It appeared that the suspect had pulled items through the glass and taken off,” said O’Brien.

“One of the items taken was the cash drawer, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash and some tags for making dog tags. That cash drawer was later located at Maffeo Sutton Park.”

He says they looked at the video surveillance, which showed a man dressed all in black, wearing a toque and jeans, throwing a rock at the window before taking the cash drawer and heading southbound on foot on Cliffe Street.

While they know the suspect was a man based on the size, officers couldn’t determine what he looked like from the footage.

If anyone familiar with the area of the break-in saw someone walking along Cliffe Street around 3:30 a.m. on Boxing Day, they should call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
