SCRD announces landfill increases for 2025

Landfill charges across the Sunshine Coast Regional District are going to be getting higher for the next three years, as the district starts to invest in new infrastructure.

According to the SCRD, the board adopted the increase in fees during a meeting on Dec. 12, and items including cardboard, mattresses, metal and garbage.

They say increases are happening across the province to accommodate the increase in infrastructure.

“Like many other local governments, the SCRD’s Solid Waste System Management Plan and the board support a user pay system, where tipping fees fund the full cost of those materials that are diverted for recycling,” they say. “So, as transportation, recycling and operating costs increase, so does the tipping fee associated with these materials.”

They add rates were last updated in 2021 for recyclables and 11 years ago for garbage.
