Nanaimo RCMP asks for old smartphones this Christmas

This Christmas, Nanaimo RCMP wants your old smartphones.

Police are asking for people to drop off their old smartphones this holiday season, with the goal of giving them to those who need it in case of an emergency.

They say many people have unused or outdated cell phones gathering dust.

“If they can still hold a charge and call 911, they can be a lifeline for someone else,” said Nanaimo RCMP.

Officers say these phones can be used as a lifeline for not only a family, but also community support agencies, and emergency services.

They ask you to only bring the old device, and to erase all personal data through factory reset.

You can drop it off at the front counter of the local detachment, located at 303 St Prideaux.
