SCRD releases first round budget results

The SCRD says they’ve concluded the first round of discussion on the draft budget and they add they’re looking at several projects and fee increases.

According to the district, updated fees were adopted for services including planning, building and waste disposal at the landfill, as well as splitting projects into three different categories to determine which should get done first.

They say residents on the water systems in North Pender, South Pender can expect their rates to increase between $125 to $165, with regional systems seeing an increase of $64 starting next year.

Projects expected to move ahead first in the budget included upgrades to the Chapman Water Treatment Plant, Noxious weed removal at John Daley Park, and increased information technology data storage.

They add, community conservation measures will also be taken into consideration as to how they’ll perform community outreach in relation to the 2025 budget.

Round two is expected to finalize decisions on which projects will be adopted for a final decision, and residents can attend a roundtable on Jan. 9.
