Car got lodged into Nanaimo home Saturday night

A car got lodged in a Nanaimo home on the weekend.

Nanaimo RCMP say the incident took place on Saturday night at 10:15, where a driver was aggressively doing doughnuts at the roundabout located at the intersection of Butcher Road and Kenwill Drive.

The driver lost control of his car and it became lodged in the basement of a home near the corner of the intersection.

Reserve Constable Gary O’Brien says when officers arrived at the scene, nobody was around.

“Apparently the two occupants of the car fled,” said O’Brien.

“Nobody was injured, the homeowner was out, very upset, quite distraught because she’s an older woman. We talked to a number of witnesses and they said that area is predominant for kids doing doughnuts.”

O’Brien says they were able to collect some evidence from the scene, leading them to a home nearby where a young adult man was found.

While he denied any driving, police had enough evidence to put him in the car, serving him with multiple violation tickets for No Insurance, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident and Drive without Due Care. The car was later towed.

O’Brien says both the house and car, an older model Mercedes, suffered significant damage.

“The car had driven into a window on the basement side, knocked out the brick working,” said O’Brien.

“The vehicle suffered significant damage on the front-end.”

He says after this incident, police will up their patrols to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
