Nanaimo RCMP remind you to not fall victim to crimes of opportunity after two recent incidents.
Police say a man’s vehicle was recently stolen, with the man explaining to them that he was warming up his car and left it unlocked.
When the man returned, not only was the car stolen but also some power tools and his wallet.
“The vehicle, tools and wallet have not been recovered,” said Nanaimo RCMP.
“As we say in the business- Lock it or Lose it.”
The second incident is about unattended packages left at your front door, with officers saying thieves follow courier vans, waiting and watching while the packages are dropped off.
If the package isn’t picked up within minutes, the thieves move in and take your item.
They recommend getting a trusted neighbour to pick up your package, arrange it to be delivered to work, or tell the courier service you will pick it up at their warehouse.
