UPDATE: 1,061 people regain power in Nanaimo after early morning outage

UPDATE: BC Hydro crews regain power to over 1,060 customers in Nanaimo as of 8:00 a.m.

Over 1,050 people have no power in Gabriola Island this Remembrance Day.

According to BC Hydro,  outages took place at 2:40 a.m. and 3:11 a.m. today, where a total of 2,113 people lost power, with 1,061 of them in Nanaimo and 1,052 in Gabriola Island.

The outages affect those living east of Creekside Drive, south of Townsite Road, north of Buttertubs Drive, west of Girvin Avenue, and east of South Road.

Hydro says for the 1,061 customers, a motor vehicle accident caused the outages, while for Gabriola Island, the outages were because of a tree coming down on their wires.

Crews are on their way to Gabriola as of this morning.

They hope to restore power later today.
