VI Fluffle is holding a vaccine clinic for rabbits in Nanaimo on Sunday.
Two cases of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus have been confirmed on the San Juan Islands in Washington State.
While there is plenty of distance between the two locations, RHDV is highly contagious and, in most cases, fatal to rabbits.
It’s easily transmitted via food, bedding for rabbits, people, clothing, shoes, insects, birds and wildlife.
VI Fluffle urges all rabbit owners to get them vaccinated against RDH if they are due.
The vaccine clinic in Nanaimo is on October 27, at 4200 Island Hwy North, from 9:30am to 11:30am.
It’s by reservation only and rabbit owners are asked to email VI Fluffle at [email protected].
The BC SPCA says one case of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease was reported in the Nanaimo area in February of 2018.
Since then, RDH was found in BC in 2018 and 2019 on the Island and Lower Mainland.
In February 2023, RHD caused the mass deaths of feral rabbits in Courtenay
