Park-goers on Gabriola Island will get some new areas to explore in 707 Community Park soon.
The Regional District of Nanaimo says the expansion is thanks to the purchase of an area locally called Wilkson Woods.
The new land totals 78 acres, making 707 Park the second largest in the RDN.
“This addition to the 707 Community Park is an exciting opportunity for residents to expand their access to outdoor recreation areas on Gabriola Island and for the RDN to conserve an important natural area,” said RDN Chair, Vanessa Craig.
The new area, which the RDN says will cost $8,000 a year to maintain includes second-growth forest, mature trees and several seasonal streams.
