Police to recover remains and vehicles from Sarita River

Police are looking to recover the remains and vehicles of missing people from the Bamfield incident.

In a release, Port Alberni RCMP say they are working with the Alberni Search and Rescue Squad to recover both the remains and vehicles of two missing people from the Sarita River.

This comes as during the weekend, a Bamfield Road washout led to the deaths of the two people.

They say while they were able to find one of the deceased, because of high water levels and fast-moving currents, emergency services weren’t able to recover the vehicles or confirm the second person’s status.

The second person has been confirmed dead as of Monday.

Sgt. Chet Carroll says this was a tragic incident and a great loss for the person’s families.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of the victims,” said Carroll.

Police add they have informed the families of the recovery.
