RCMP in Port Hardy are investigating a float plane crash Wednesday evening which left one person dead.
Just before 8 pm on Wednesday night, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre notified Port Hardy RCMP about a float plane crash. It happened in Warner Bay, 47 kilometres northeast of Port Hardy in Seymour Inlet.
The Search and Rescue Tactical Rescue and Recovery Unit attended the scene and were able to recover the three occupants of the plane, but one was located deceased. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and West Coast Marine Services have been called in for support.
RCMP, the Transportation Safety Board and the BC Coroners Service are now collaborating on the investigation. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
