Nanaimo’s own gold medalist Ethan Katzberg will be honoured with a homecoming celebration next week.
Katzberg won Canada’s first-ever gold medal in the hammer throw at the recent Olympics in Paris. He will be recognized along with other local past and present Olympians at a ceremony on September 26 at the Rotary Bowl by Nanaimo District Secondary School. It starts at 10:30 am.
Mayor Leonard Krog encourages everyone who’s interested to show up and wear Canadian colours.
“It’s OK if you can’t make it. Rogers is going to live-stream the event but it would be wonderful to have us all out there celebrating our current Olympian and past Olympians,” he said in a video posted to Facebook. “Red and white, everyone!”
