Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a two-vehicle crash that led to the death of one driver.
Police say the incident happened on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., where a dark-coloured car and dark-coloured SUV crashed into each other on the Nanaimo Parkway between Dunster Road overpass and Doumont Road bridge.
Police, Fire, and Emergency Health Services arrived on-scene, shutting the Parkway down in both directions, and bringing the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital.
The drivers were the only people in their respective vehicles, with the SUV driver succumbing to their injuries.
The driver of the dark-coloured car was taken to Nanaimo hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Reserve constable Gary O’Brien says the investigators were able to speak with witnesses at the scene, finding out that the driver of the dark-coloured car was heading southbound, crossing the median into oncoming traffic before the crash happened.
They are asking anyone who hasn’t spoken with police, and/or has dash cam footage of the incident, and footage of vehicles driving southbound from the Nanoose area between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. before the crash to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
