Nanaimo RCMP says there will be enhanced patrols as the city heads into Bathtub weekend.
Extra officers will be patrolling the waterways and streets during the 57th marine-festival from Friday to Sunday to ensure public safety and security during the annual festival.
Police say they’ll be out in full force, and don’t want the actions of a few individuals to interfere with others’ enjoyment.
Reserve constable Gary O’Brien says police want to be fair, but just when the weekend hits.
“We don’t want the actions of a few to ruin what has become known as a fun but safe weekend,” he says. “We will be firm, but fair in our approach to partygoers.”
Zodiacs will be patrolling the waterways, while uniformed food patrols walk the downtown streets and check nightclubs.
RCMP say they’ll also be enlisting the help of community policing volunteers to better serve the community.
