Access to addiction treatment will be easier for men on the Sunshine Coast with the addition of 12 new supportive beds in Powell River.
According to the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions 14 beds have been opened in Powell River since 2014, including detox and supportive-recovery beds.
Minister Jennifer Whiteside says providing a pathway to recovery helps everyone who needs treatment obtain it.
“This significant increase in treatment beds available will make it easier for people to get the care they need in Powell River and the qathet region,” she says. “They can remain connected to their support networks on their healing journey.”
Powell River mayor Ron Woznow says the partnership with Together We Can Miklat Recovery will benefit everyone who suffers from addictions with broader support.
“Thanks to all partners and supporters in our community who are helping to make this a reality,” he says. “This facility will build off the many successes that Miklat Recovery has achieved in Powell River.”
The beds are said to be going into a renovated firehall in the coming months and will be funded by the province and administered by the Canadian Mental Health Association of BC Division.
According to the province, the beds will help address the toxic-drug crisis and expand treatment options for people to get access care closer to home with seamless care to people during each stage of their recovery.
