A new proposed neighbourhood off Hammond Bay Road has taken its next step towards completion.
Nanaimo City Council approved a 15 building, 34-unit townhouse neighbourhood at 4670 Hammond Bay Road, just behind Pipers Pub.
Two to three units will be in each building, with access to the developments coming from the end portion of Ney Drive and be constructed with the buildings.
Coun. Janice Perrino said she’s glad to see the units being built in such a great spot for families to live.
“Just thrilled to see 34 townhouses, family homes, near schools, raised sidewalks, I think it’s an excellent development.”
Hammond Bay Elementary, Morningside Park, and Neck Point Park are just under a kilometer from the proposed development.
The area includes 1.66 hectares of land which will be dedicated to the City of Nanaimo to use as a park and features two wetlands.
A trail will connect to the end of Ney Drive, with plans for the city to connect the trail to Hammond Bay Road.
Council voted unanimously in favour of the development.
