One man is facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking after a suspected drug deal in Nanaimo led to some concerning finds.
Nanaimo RCMP’s Special Investigations/Targeted Enforcement Unit was driving along Victoria Road on April 26, when they saw a Mitsubishi parked at the intersection of Victoria Road and Selby Street.
Officers witnessed a “hand to hand” exchange of drugs for money between a male driver and a female passenger, which they arrested for trafficking.
A search ensued of the vehicle, which was full of suitcases and large bags, which disguised a man hiding in the back seats.
The officers additionally found multiple swords, large knives, drug packaging supplies and a quantity of a drug suspected to be fentanyl once they removed the man.
The driver and passenger were released, while the man found in the back was arrested.
Police have laid charges against 51-year-old Raymond Gilliland.
